Nominations sought: RGJ’s Entrepreneur of Year

RGJ.comThe Reno Gazette-Journal is accepting nominations for this year’s Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

The awards recognize the outstanding leaders at all levels of business — from small companies with less than five employees to large companies employing more than 20.

The nomination period runs from Feb. 13-27. The winners in four categories will be selected Feb. 28 by a panel of judges that includes managers from the Gazette-Journal and RGJ.com and selected honorees from last year’s program.

The winners will be announced on Sunday, March 9, on RGJ.com and in the Gazette-Journal.

The awards will be presented on March 10 at the Kick-off to the Nevada’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology’s Northern Nevada Entrepreneurship Week 2008.

There are four award categories:

  • Small business: Less than five employees.
  • Medium business: five to 20 employees.
  • Large business: more than 20 employees.
  • Best new entrepreneur: companies formed in 2006 or later.

Nomination forms are available for download at RGJ.com/business.

NCET’s Entrepreneur expo will be held March 15 in Reno

Nevada’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology is holding its “Entrepreneur Expo” from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 15 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. The free expo is designed for small businesses and for people planning to start small businesses, and each expo will feature exhibits, speakers and panels that provide the resources and expert advice needed to successfully start or grow a small business.

Each Expo will include 75 to 100 exhibitors and 25 to 30 speakers and panelists, and NCET expects 500 to 1,000 to attend the Reno Expo.
“Nevada was built by small businesses, and these small businesses are critical to Nevada’s future economic growth, vitality and diversity,” said Lt. Governor Brian K. Krolicki, chair of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development (NCED) and one of the expo’s sponsors.
